What Is
Veterinary Rehabilitation?
Veterinary rehabilitation is a structured, medically-guided approach to improving mobility, flexibility, strength, and comfort. It is commonly recommended after injury or surgery, but it can also be an important part of managing chronic conditions and age-related changes:
- Improve strength, balance, and range of motion
- Reduce pain and inflammation
- Support safer recovery after surgery or injury
- Help pets remain active and comfortable as they age
Getting Started:
Forms and Preparation
Before your pet’s first rehabilitation visit, we ask that required forms, be completed in advance:
Completing these forms ahead of time allows our veterinary team to review your pet’s medical history and focus fully on your pet during the appointment. This also helps ensure your initial session is productive, efficient, and tailored to your pet’s specific needs.
Benefits of
Rehabilitation Care
Rehabilitation aids recovery and helps pets regain confidence in their movement and maintain independence:
- Improved mobility and flexibility
- Better pain control and comfort
- Faster, safer recovery after procedures
- Reduced risk of reinjury
- Increased quality of life

What’s Involved in the
Initial Rehabilitation Consultation
The initial rehabilitation consultation is a one-hour, in-depth session focused on evaluation, goal-setting, and education:
- A comprehensive review of medical history and current concerns
- Physical assessment and gait evaluation
- Measurements of flexibility and range of motion
- Identification of strengths, limitations, and pain points
- Clear goal-setting based on your pet’s condition and lifestyle
- Development of individualized treatment recommendations
We establish measurable data points during this visit so progress can be tracked and re-evaluated over time.
What to Expect After the Initial Consultation
Rehabilitation is a process, not a single visit. Most pets benefit from a series of follow-up appointments designed to build progress gradually and safely:
- Follow-up sessions 1–2 times per week
- Treatment duration of 1–3 months, depending on condition and response
- Ongoing reassessment using tangible measurements to track improvement
- Adjustments to the plan as goals are met or new needs arise

In-Hospital
Follow-Up Sessions
After the initial consultation, follow-up rehabilitation visits are typically 30-minute sessions focused on hands-on therapy:
- Guided stretching and mobility exercises
- Targeted strengthening and therapeutic techniques
- Progress checks and plan adjustments
Many pets attend follow-up sessions twice weekly for approximately six weeks, though every plan is tailored to the individual.
Partnering With You at Home
Owner involvement is a key part of successful rehabilitation. Much of the progress happens outside the hospital. We work closely with you to ensure confidence and clarity at home:
- Personalized at-home exercise plans
- Hands-on instruction during appointments
- Ongoing guidance to ensure exercises are performed safely and effectively
Advanced Pain Management
With Laser Therapy
As part of rehabilitation care, MVP offers laser therapy to support pain management and healing. When appropriate, laser therapy is incorporated into a comprehensive rehabilitation plan to provide additional benefits:
- Reduce pain and inflammation
- Promote tissue healing
- Improve comfort during recovery and chronic conditions
