What is Canine Rehabilitation?
Canine rehabilitation (rehab) is the process of using exercises and modalities, like laser therapy, to reduce pain, improve tissue healing, and improve functional movement. The goal is to help your dog continue to move well, and pain free, for as long as possible.
Benefits
Many dogs can benefit from rehab:
- Arthritis or joint conditions
- Soft tissue injuries (biceps tendon, iliopsoas, Achilles, etc.)
- Weight-related mobility issues
- Post-surgical recovery (TPLO, FHO, patella luxation, etc.)
- Neurological conditions (IVDD, FCE, degenerative myelopathy, etc.)
We use a combination of therapeutic exercises along with laser therapy (when indicated) for our patients in rehab to help them continue to move their best.
Initial Rehabilitation Consults
Initial rehab consultations are scheduled separately from wellness or illness visits and are allotted one hour of time to discuss your goals and to develop an individualized rehab plan for your dog. Individualized plans may include:
- In-hospital exercise programs
- Home exercise programs
- Laser therapy
- Advanced pain management
- Detailed nutrition plans
